Doing It All: How Agency Owners Burn Themselves Out

Share

I’ve seen it time and time again—agency owners who genuinely want the best for their business, but end up trapped in a cycle of low-impact work. They’re pouring everything into their agency, hoping it will thrive, but here’s where it goes wrong:

→ They get overly involved in their team's tasks, trying to help wherever they can.

→ They’re constantly on client calls, making themselves available 24/7, hoping it’ll show commitment.

→ They throw in their "two cents" on every project, even when it’s not needed.

→ They work ridiculously long hours—because, for them, their agency is their life.

But then, something shifts. These owners reach a breaking point where things simply can’t continue as they are. The burnout hits hard, and suddenly, the passion that once fueled them has faded into exhaustion.

It Doesn’t Have to Be This Way

One of the first things I do with a new client is to make sure the owner is operating from the right place. It’s not about working harder—it’s about working smarter.

I love watching an owner finally "craft" their role:

✔️ They focus on tasks they actually enjoy and are passionate about.

✔️ They play to their strengths, spending 2-3x more time in areas where they truly excel.

✔️ They either delete or delegate everything else that drains their energy.

Once the owner is positioned correctly, doing what they love and are best at, that’s when we can turn our attention to optimizing the rest of the business.

A Question for You

If you could craft your ideal role within your business, what would it look like? Would it be the same as it is now, or would it be entirely different?
